S. Bach - Ciaconna from Partita in A minor (arr. L. U. Mortensen) G. Benda - Sonata in A minor J. G. Hertel - Piano Concerto in F minor W. A. Mozart - Rondo in A minor, K. 511 W. A. Mozart - Piano Concerto in A major, K. 414 THIS EVENT HAS ALREADY OCCURED IN A PREVIOUS SEASON! In the stylistic throes of the post-Baroque, composers like Mozart, Benda, and Hertel forged a new emotional, chromatic style, inspired by the literary “Storm and Stress” movement that would find its apotheosis in Goethe’s The Sorrows of Young Werther. The earliest tremors of this proto-romantic language can be heard in Bach’s most extrovert and theatrical keyboard works. The remarkable young Kristian Bezuidenhout brings his extraordinary sensitivity to both harpsichord and fortepiano, joined by an all-star ensemble of period-instrument performers. |
